Why Block Printing?

Why Block Printing?

Block printing is one of the oldest textile traditions in the world and also one of the most beautiful.

Long before digital printing and fast production, fabric was decorated slowly by hand using carved wooden blocks, natural dyes and extraordinary skill.

At The Supper House, this centuries-old technique sits at the centre of everything we create. From table linens to bags and clothing, every design begins the same way: as a hand-drawn pattern that is carefully brought to life through block printing.

Because for us, the process matters just as much as the final piece.

Why Original Design Matters

Block printing is beautiful in its own right, but what matters just as much to us is what is being printed.

At The Supper House, every pattern begins as an original, hand-drawn design.

We don’t work from existing prints or off-the-shelf patterns. Each design is created from scratch, then translated into carved blocks and printed by hand.

This process means every piece carries a clear creative origin from sketchbook to block to finished fabric.

It’s slower than working digitally, and it requires more care and collaboration with the artisans we work with in Jaipur. But it ensures that every print is entirely our own.

As the brand grows, this focus on original block-printed designs will continue to guide everything we create.

Made Slowly, Meant to Be Kept

In a world of fast production and fleeting trends, block printing offers something different.

It requires patience. Skill. Time.

Each piece passes through many hands before it is finished, from the initial drawing, to the carving of the blocks, to the careful printing of the fabric itself.

That slower process is exactly what makes it special.

Block printing is not the fastest way to make fabric.
But for us, it’s the most meaningful.

Because when something is made slowly, it carries a story with it.
